Accelerated Reader is a computerized
testing program available to students school wide. Both the
elementary and high school libraries have computer stations
with access to Accelerated Reader tests. All books under the
umbrella of the program have computerized quizzes designed
to determine the student's understanding of the book. Participation
in this program is optional, but the reading teachers and
the elementary librarian will record and recognize student
effort and progress in the program at the end of the year
awards ceremony.
Program Information
Grades 1-3
Accelerated Reader Quizzes are optional during the school
year; however, we do encourage students to take advantage
of this excellent program. Accelerated Reader books are identified
in the library with blue tags and are assigned points ranging
from .5 to 60+. Points are awarded to the student based on
the difficulty of the book selected and the percentage of
questions answered correctly. These points are accumulated
throughout the school year. A student must pass 5 tests to
be eligible for the Accelerated Reader Certificate that is
awarded at the end of the year.
Grades 4-6
During the School Year:
Accelerated Reader Quizzes are optional during the school
year; however, we do encourage students to take advantage
of this excellent program. Accelerated Reader books are identified

Summer Reading:
Students in grades 4 through 6 are given summer reading lists
at the end of the previous school year. New students are given
the list when they enroll. When students return to school
in August, they are required to take and pass an accelerated
reading quiz on the book(s) read. The quiz (5-20 questions)
is administered on the library's computer. Accelerated Reader
quiz results are reported to the reading teacher and each
student receives credit for their quiz(zes) toward their first
class grade.
